Three Wonderful Places to Visit in Namakkal

This district is recently bifurcated, from Salem, and its headquarters is Namakkal. The district is famous for its poultry farming. The town lies at the foot of a rock which is about 60 meters high and about one kilometre in circumference. There is a fort on the rock. There are two rock-cut cave temples here, one dedicated to Narasimhaswamy and the other to Rangananthaswamy. A Hanuman statue of about 7 meters height, carved out of a single stone can also be found here. The poet V.Ramalingam Pillai lived here.

The Three wonderful places that need to be visited while visiting Namakkal are Kolli hills, Tiruchengodu and Mohanur. Let us see in detail.

Kolli Hills

Those looking for a holiday off the beaten track can head for Kolli Hills, a pristine and serene hill station still untouched by time, at an altitude of 1,190 metres. Thick fertile forests rich in medicinal plants and a variety of flora and fauna, exotic fruits, Pure honey and a unique tribal culture are what Kolli Hills is famous for. The other attractions in the hills would cover the Sri Arappaleeswarar Temple, the Agasakangai falls and the tourism festival that would be celebrated during the month of August.

Tiruchengodu (38km)

Tiruchengodu is one of the seven Saivite places of pilgrimage in kongunadu. A temple for the Arthanareeswarar is located on a hillock. The presiding deity who is presented here is Arthanareeswarar, A half-male and half-female form. Siva and Sakthi are worshipped as one in this form. This is a unique feature of this place. Gandhiji Ashram founded by Sri Rajaji is also situated here.

Mohanur (18km)

This is the birthplace of poet V.Ramalingam Pillai
